It”s not uncommon for people to visit bomb testing sites. After all, the Trinity test site is a popular topic in US history and a place that many people would like to visit (but it is only open for visitors one to two times a year). People are morbidly attracted to learning about warfare and nuclear bombs. Mexico”s government began testing their own bombs before World War I on a group of islands off of their coast, called Marieta Islands. Instead of leaving behind devastation or at least a historical site, those bomb tests created something absolutely unexpected.
The Marieta Islands are a group of small uninhabited islands a few miles off the coast of Nayarit, Mexico.
This hole was formed by the Mexican government”s bomb testing.
But it”s not a site of devastation…
It”s one of beauty. The beach is called Playa de Amor (“Beach of Love”).
It”s a popular tourist attraction.
Many people flock to this unique beach.
It”s not easy making your way to this beach, though.
Visitors must have a permit to visit the Marieta Islands.
They are a Natural Reserve protected by the Mexican Government.
To reach the beach itself, visitors must swim through a small tunnel…
It”s the only way to get to the playa.
Since the wildlife is relatively undisturbed on the beach, visitors have many opportunities to interact with the beautiful creatures.
